Olá,

I am a Brazilian educator and scholar dedicated to advancing socially just, equitable, and multimodal approaches to language and literacy education. My research explores how digital multimodal composing (DMC), culturally sustaining pedagogies, and disciplinary literacies can be meaningfully integrated to support culturally and linguistically diverse learners across educational contexts.

My Story

Originally from João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil, I bring over 13 years of English language teaching experience across diverse settings in Brazil and Canada. My journey began at age 18 as a language tutor and evolved into a career deeply grounded in advocacy, equity, and the recognition of students’ full communicative repertoires. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Letters (Linguistics and English Language Teaching) from the Federal University of Paraíba, a Master of Arts in Literacy Education from University of British Columbia, and am currently completing my PhD at UBC, where my dissertation investigates how Digital Multimodal Compositions can be fairly assessed as a form of disciplinary learning.

Educational Vision and Commitments

I am committed to building collaborative educational communities where multilingualism is affirmed, digital literacies are thoughtfully integrated, and social justice is not an afterthought but a guiding principle. My work with youth with migrant and refugee experiences, teacher candidates, and multilingual children across Brazil and Canada continues to show me that when we trust students’ stories, languages, and creative expressions, we unlock new possibilities for deep, transformative learning.
